The Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Assistant Director of Weights and Measures directly supports the Agricultural Commissioner/Director of Weights and Measures in the administration of department policies and programs designed to enable effective enforcement of Agricultural and Weights and Measures laws, regulations, ordinances, and similar codes. This is an at-will, executive level position that requires a commitment to promoting, protecting, and serving the agricultural industry, the environment, businesses, and the public.

The Assistant Commissioner/Assistant Director will perform a wide variety of functions critical to the management of the department’s daily operations, programs, and services, including participating in the development and implementation of the department's goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards, and information systems. The Assistant Commissioner/Assistant Director will also manage the selection, evaluation, and professional development of a dynamic team of thirteen staff, including temporary staff, with the goal of fostering a culture of collaboration and trust within the department. They will prepare and monitor the departmental budget with minimal oversight and will also be responsible for preparing and submitting the Annual Financial Report to the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The Assistant Commissioner/Assistant Director will also recommend the adoption and amendment of County ordinances, resolutions, regulations, state and federal statues to help ensure the effective administration of department services while also overseeing investigation of complaints, proposing enforcement actions, and serving as hearing officer in administrative actions.
